Institute of Masters of Wine

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW), based in England, offers a single, but very prestigious certification for wine professionals: the Master of Wine (MW). Master of Wine is an advanced degree for the most serious and committed wine students. The study program for certification consists of three stages and takes a minimum of three years to complete. Applicants to the program must hold an advanced wine credential, such as WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines (DipWSET) or Advanced or Master Sommelier (MS) from the Court of Master Sommeliers and work in the wine industry.

Educational Guidance

In addition to the resources provided by IMW for the program, independent study, and tasting groups play an important role in the learning process. IMW recommends that applicants find additional resources for their studies. If you are interested in pursuing the MW (or are already an applicant), our learning path for Master of Wine can provide you with courses that can augment your program.
